About What's New MY RANT

I have tried to really not go into defending what's New in the past, I have recently twice though, because its personal to me when someone has digs at it.

Today whoever posts next will be the 1000th post for the blog- that will probably happen while I'm writing this so congratulations-and since it started on the 1st of December 2007 thats a pretty nice number.

Now come back in time with me for a second, towards the end of last year, the feed was a cesspool, day in day out all it was was drama, big gigantic vendettas against other bloggers and designers, every day it was something, and not good somethings.

People were paying not as much attention to the fashion posts or the new release posts at all, it was all about who was backstabbing whom, and what the next drama was going to be. If you weren't around then , or you didn't yet have knowledge of the feed, then I am so glad for you, I really am, because its something that not many are proud of at all , or would even want to remember.

Back then also there was a definite missing in action on Tao's part, he has allot more going on than the feeds upkeep, and people were always complaining about not being able to get on there. There were also a handful of people, Designers who were really afraid of blogging their items- this is fact I know, because I have had the convo's.

Many Designers and people like me that work for Designers, always believed that fash con should have a blog, a place were all that posted notices in world, were actually able to post on a blog as well, that way not only could those willing to be in the group have notices in world, but those that don't want constant drop downs were still able to keep up with all posts at their own convenience.

I waited for that, hoped that it would occur but it never did. But there was a need for it , a place were there was no drama, no what people had for lunch - yes that is one of the rules on what's new - just a blog where Designers could post on content only, include a slurl and pics and that was it.

It has also ALWAYS been suggested that people DO NOT post same things same day if they have their own blog, I am not their mothers, I have tried to keep the posts as clean as possible to the rule of no drama no bloggy type posts, you can ask anyone that posts there that has done one, how fast I am in their box sobbing and saying please don't.

I have also suggested to people that do have blogs on the same feed, to perhaps even do a montage pic or one or two and link to their own blog for the rest of their new releases, some do that , some don't, again I am not their mother.

The idea of What's New was also a place for people that really didn't want to even see other blogs , that only wanted to know what was new from some stores and thats it, they only want to shop.

I at the beginning regretted adding it to the feed, because of the complaints from some -not enough to make me really regret it - but realised early on still, that many were using it as their ONLY way of communicating NEW releases, and that if the blog wasn't on the feed those people would miss out on the coverage of everyone else.

Complaining aside for a second, of all the Designers on there, yes NOW a majority have their blogs finally on the feed, but some of those that do never had a blog to begin with, What's New gave them the practice and the motivation to really grow in the marketing of their stores , they also found that it made them HUMAN to many customers , when they were seen outside of in world notices, and actually had words.

It also gave us as consumers the chance to see people we had never seen before, lets remember that for a second , there are plenty on What's New who are so grateful to the blog for giving them that exposure, I can name a few that would say so , but I wont , you know who doesn't have a blog that you only see [...]

Dusky Ach post one

Thanks to /artilleri/ for the awesome beach

Hello! No, it really is Ach, dressing out of my comfort zone. The next five days are going to be M&R Skin Challenge, in which I try to figure out how to dress for Rosemary and Mimi's brand new skins -- in the darkest shades.

"I should send you the three lightest tones, right?" Rosemary said.

"Hmmm," I replied, "What about the three darkest!"

I put on the darkest skin and tried to find myself. What colors go with dark skin? What hair? My brain fled for a while, and for inspiration I turned to the feed. Lots of fine people have been wearing Zaara's clothing, and I thought perhaps the brightness of the fabric would stand out against the dark shades of this skin. So's not to steal other people's outfits, I'm also in boyish cargo shorts and bleached-out beach hair.

These skins -- I really love the softness of the features, especially the dusting of freckles on this makeup and the way it makes my eyes look thoughtful. The focus is definitely upon the structure of the face, with gentle contouring and careful shading instead of hiding anything behind color.

Yep, I'll be wearing these skins all week -- you'll get to see me flail as I work to dress in a skin that doesn't feel like me. I promise you that sometimes you'll laugh ("OMG. What was she thinking!"), but I will keep in mind that the point is to try new things and be creative...

Introducing Pheobe Petrov

Pheobe.jpg
I am absolutely thrilled to introduce to you the newest member of our blogging family here at SexySecond, Pheobe Petrov. Pheobe is no stranger to the the fashionistas of Second Life, as she has been keeping her own blog, Fashionality, filled to the brim with great finds and wonderful pictures and reviews and now she will share some of that style and energy with our readers as well.

I swear that our good fortune in finding Pheobe is just another example of things happening for a reason, and that there really may be more to heaven and earth than are dreamt of in my philosophy. I had read Pheobe’s blog several times before, but it was not until a mutual friend of ours raved about this sweet and talented woman who is a great blogger with a great sense of style that the light went on and I sent a “hey! would you be interested…” IM. Fortunately for us, she was interested, and I know that you, like me, can’t wait to see Pheobe’s finds.

That’s right. Today is the Grand Opening party for CodeBastard Redgrave’s new sim, Rouge. The theme of the night is, of course, red, and I chose my gown accordingly. I actually thought of changing it once, but this is the dress Codie liked and since this is her day, I decided to stick.

Several people are keeping their party attire a secret but, since I have another, bigger, secret to keep, something had to give. So, I’m giving the metaverse a sneak peak at my homage to Rouge.

Visit my blog for details about what I’m wearing, more information about the Rouge sim, and, of course, photos of this exciting new destination.

I found shiny spider web at Hawaii. Isn’t it beautiful?
But I don’t wanna be a prey :( lol

Tiny dinosaur invited me on her tea time ;) Taste of tea was a little bit salty, but I could have a good time with polite tiny cuty lady.
Besides I saw many ancient creatures on this sim.
I maybe can see my origen…..?? :P

** INSTYLE FASHION AGENCY **

Faces of Darklands - Announced

Last Saturday was the fashion show displaying new skins created for the Darklands by Draconic Kiss, the beautiful creations of Silent Sparrow, along with the new hot line from Poison Candy. And who better to model in this show than the Faces of the Darklands finalists.

They endured lag, attachments pending, crashes, etc to present these creations to the 70+ attendees, along with wowing the judges with their talents. JennyH Gossipgirl, Teena Basevi, and Hyasynth Tiramisu, found it very difficult choosing only 2 to represent the Darklands sims. After much deliberation, they chose Elusyve Jewell and Aralute Undercroft to be the Faces of the Darklands.

They will each recieve 10,000L, a contract with InStyle agency, full line of the Darklands' clothing, and print ads for the Darklands stores. This Saturday, July 5th at 10am SLT, will be a party at Crimson Shadow celebrating the winners and to all the finalists for the great job they did. DJ December Dollinger will be spinning EBM/Industrial/Synthpop, with Lokum Shilova presenting the prizes to the winners. Join us in saying thank you to all the finalists and everyone involved, by coming this Saturday.

Spotlight: Pink Outfitters

I stumbled across Pink Outfitters yesterday, and the second I walked into the store, I was in love. London Dailey has a small, but incredibly cute collection of dresses, t-shirts, pants and shorts. I wanted to buy at least one of everything in the store, but I resisted. I tp'ed home and tried my new purchases on immediately and I was blown away. Her seams are flawless. I mean, flawless! Her textures are rich. I'm very much impressed!

The first item I spotted were the Producer pants. They are available in so many different colors, but I immediately saw the berry shade and knew I had to have them. I'm a sucker for pink. These pants come with prim cuffs and are sold for $145 L, which is a great price for the quality of work. I paired it here with the Fly, Fly graphic tee. London has a whole line of tees, which are sold for $95 L.

My next outfit started with the French Scoop Neck in black. As we all know, stripes are really hard to pull off in SL, but she really did an exceptional job. The seams are perfect. It comes in lots of different colors and are sold for $100 L. I paired the sweater with the Trouser shorts in Red Wine. Like I said in my last post, I'm on a big trouser short kick and seem to be gathering a small collection of them in just about every color. These trousers are sold in a solid and a print, which means 2 shorts for $160 L.

I highly suggest making a trip to Pink Outfitters and checking out her collection. I know that I can't wait to see what future releases London has up her sleeves!

Where better to start Virtual Neko exploration than one of Second Life’s best and oldest RP sims… Midian City. When I first discovered Midian, I loved nothing more than to curl up on the steps of the central police precinct, furtively moving my ears to catch the idle chatter as all of Midian’s best, darkest, and most bizarre swaggered past. Chances are I may have been wearing something sorta like this:

Outfits and Matching Wigs

Take a look at the attached preview - I just know a lot of you will love this set. The "Cabaret" outfit includes all sorts of sculpted goodies and can be worn without the suspenders, if you like. The "Cabaret" Wig includes a hat to match all 3 available colors of the outfit and a white banded one for recoloring. The outfit is also available in green.

Hey, do you all remember way back when I first came into Second Life? That very first school girl I made? The one called "Micro Mini School Girl?" Yah it had managed to stay in shop for years because it remained such a great seller. Well, its gone now but I've updated and replaced it! Yes, bring on the "Lil' Dirty Girl" which has a uber short skirt that can be worn alone or as the glitch shorts to the flex skirt, panties tied off oxford but this time w/ sculptie parts, thigh high socks. AND I made a matching wig for it as well. The wig includes ribbons in all the available colors to match the outfit. The outfit is also available in black.

Ok hawt...new...here 'tis!

We'll start with the Boys cause they never get shit. I made an outfit called (somewhat tongue in cheek) "BONER" lol you guys know me by now. It's two versions of the top, a white long sleeved pinstriped buttondown and one with a skully V Neck Sweater vest over it and longer tails. It comes with black suede pants with a braided belt and silver buckle. A hot slightly dressy but still cool look for not much Ls!

I decided to go ahead and make multiple colors of the Shirts and Pants from the Boner set so I did the "Mr Goodbar Silk Shirts" and the "Two Lane Blacktop Suede Pants" A buncha colors and the pants come with mixed brown and black belts. These are way hot and the pants are absolutely unisex, so chicas, these are for you too!

This set is soooo fun. Murder Ballet is a bodysuit in textured and sweetly shaded black (surprise) with lace trim and is great on it's own, paired with jeans or skirts. I put it together with a flouncy black feather Tutu, tintable leggings and long gloves and some really adorable prim cuffs and a tiara that are covered in texture changing gems. The cuffs were inspired by a pair I saw at Armani. Just click them and you have a choice of 12 gem textures. I wore this for three days straight after I made it lol

Of any of the world religions the one I find most beautiful and balanced is Hinduism with it's host of Deities or "Devas". The images of these are so glorious and I used them to decorate these cropped long sleeved tops with modern designs. Six Deities are represented...Kali, Shiva, Lakshmi, Vishnu, Ganesh and Tara and the tops come with a full length Silk Sari skirt and pants all at a very affordable price.

Skin Flicks… More Than Just Skins

Last Fall… coinciding with my blogging leave of absence, Mavis McGettigan of Skin Flicks sent me a coat, that due to circumstances I never even got around to trying on til later that year. So I knew the Skin Flicks designer was into making clothes, and then forgot about it. Til yesterday when I was talking with my friend Roslin and she mentioned she saw so many cute things at Mavis’shop. Now Roslin is one of my style icons, just one classy lady, so if she tells me she has seen cuteness around… I’m dropping my prims and TP right away.

Skinflicks.jpgA trip I don’t regret, other than for my Linden dollar balance. I kind of lost myself in the awesome clothes at Skin Flicks. Whereas I never managed to make my shape work with her skins, it is love at first sight with Mavis’clothes. Every detail, every texture, it is all so beautiful. No issues with these clothes…. and oh my goodness, do I love it when a designer builds her prims on a shape that is having some curves and muscles. I didn’t need to adjust a single prim to make things fit.

I’m not going to describe every single outfit, just look for yourself , and the details are in the credits. If you’ve been at Skin Flicks, you’ll know why I’m such a happy girl today… If you have never been there… it’s not too late… go indulge yourself!

Normally I hate to think of anything that could remind me of the dentist ( my biggest fear) but today I will make an exception. Caine Lewinter and Novo Zimerman have come together to create an awesome new store called Novocaine (clever, huh?). Today I had the opportunity to own a few of their amazing pieces and I am in heaven! Happy Birthday to me!

Most of you who know me know that my favourite place to shop is Armidi, and I’m ALWAYS hanging out there. (In fact, I’m standing there as I write this) Novocaine reminds me a lot of Armidi. I mean, the build is completely different (and very relaxing, by the way) but the clothes and hair are just THAT good. They are definitely up to the same standard, and I have to say that I think Novocaine are MUCH better at sculpty work. (Don’t tell the people at Armidi I said that. :P)

They don’t have a lot of selection (yet!) but what they do have excites me immensely! Bright, vibrant colours, clothes you can wear every day, you can dress them up, dress them down, mix and match, whatever. Pictured below is just a sample of the lovely items I snagged today.

I’m wearing the Vintage Coat in Candy (available in a gazillion different colours) which has a prim collar, prim wrist-sleeves, prim belt, and yes, that is a prim skirt and NOT a system skirt! Hallelujah! My hair is Jaya in Golden and while normally I prefer to have long hair, I couldn’t resist this super cute short cut. I love how it falls over my eye and you still cannot see my prim lashes through it! I hate when that happens.

My top is part of a top I will tell you about below. The pants are the City Slacks in Wheat which have the neatest little details that you can’t really see on this picture, but you’ll have to take my word for it. And the boots! The sexiest little ankle boots that come in another gazillion colours! All of the Novocaine items come in many different vibrant colour choices.

And now let’s talk about the cutest little top ever! I got it in 2 colours, and I’m seriously planning on buying all the other colours when I get more lindens! It is just tooo cute!

Yes, that is a sculpty bottom on that top. Isn’t it adorable? It’s great with pants or shorts, or even leggings. You can even wear it as just a tank top without the sculpty bottom. I’m wearing it in ‘Aura’, but there are so many other colours to choose from. [I'm also wearing shorts from Cupcakes, formerly <3 Cupcakes, and shoes from Armidi]

This isn’t all the Novocaine has to offer, they have much, much more in store, INCLUDING MEN’S WEAR, so grab your man or your girlfriends and run down and check it out! And while the prices are definitely NOT outrageous, bring a lot of lindens, because you’re going to want one of EVERYTHING! And hey, you might even see me there!

See you at my birthday party tonight!

YAY Vacation Starts today!

I thought I'd go ahead and get some newest release bloggage out of the way before I spend the next week relaxing and working on our new sim. Yeps, we got a second sim right next to Pulse called Asylum. It's gonna be all residential and I finally get to build my dream house and not be so limited on prims and space. We also get to start to work on a new business Roblem and I have been planning for awhile doing some unusual prefabs and furniture so that's really exciting. Ok nuff about me, lets get caught up on the past few week's new releases. Ohh if you get a chance, go and check out my newest large satellite store on Lemon Island, right next to the new Bewitched Store and the shops @ AsPire Isle. It's a gorgeous place with some great designers (including me -winks-)

I made this pretty texture from a woodcut image I found and put together a dress I had an idea for last month and I call it "Dragonflies". This is much dressier than things I usually do but its fun and kyoot and very summery. A gathered black silk bodice with knotted ties and scarf in the front and a full babydoll skirt. It comes in 6 colors you can buy seperately or all of em in a fat pack with black latex teggings and prim cuffs. It also includes metal and glass dragonfly bangles.

I did some latex leggings in a fat pack for cheap cheap. You get 10 colors including pearl, silver and charcoal which tint really well to any color you want. The ankle wrinkles are sculpted only two prims each. I made these cause I got some really cute shoes with prim toes and I cant wear stockings with them lol I havent taken em off since I made em!

I was planning on making a sexy secretary outfit but I thought I should make these in multiple colors instead and just offer fat packs at a really good price. I did some reallllly low cut buttondown dress shirts with sculpted collar and cuffs and a set of five teeny flexi mini skirts in sorta preppy patterns like tweed and houndstooth since everyone seems to love not wearing glitch pants. Better wear panties with these though unless you wanna show some cha cha! The kyoot updo and hair sticks in these ads are from Philotic Energy...SOON to be released so get in line!

Second Man

Re-invent yourself: New skins @ Adam n Eve

david_t1.jpg“There is no such thing as a grown-up person, especially if we are talking about men.

“Boys know right from the start that they are blessed with a God-given right to immaturity, though they are often loath to admit it to themselves, or to one another, and never to the girls.  They exercise this right whenever they flirt, show off, look in the mirror when someone is watching, try to act cool, impress other boys, make leaps that risk physical or emotional injury, smoke cigarettes, get wet, drink alcoholic beverages, get near automobiles that go fast, and play with children, sharp objects, or girls. …

“Boys are men in a state of grace that is often written off or undervalued as foolishness.”

Don’t Fence Me In

I have loved horses since I was a child with my first Shetland. I don’t completely believe in Shetlands for children. Yes, they’re small, but they are ornery. Morgans are much better tempered and don’t love to bite nearly so much. Of course, SL® horses like this appie don’t bite at all. In fact, if you fall of a SL horse, your computer needs fixing. My appaloosa comes with an English saddle so although I don’t always put on jodhpurs, I do like to dress appropriately. I thought this lovely outfit from DE Designs with a very martial cut and flair suited the occasion and the rich scarlet of the jacket made me think of English riders riding to the hounds — not that I would do that. Especially since I met a perfectly delightful black wolf named Tabitha while I was out riding at Grendel’s Children.

If you think you might like riding, I recommend going to McLean’s Horse Farm where you can get a demo horse to ride. Then (hush, I probably should not tell you this) just jump the fence and follow the railroad tracks. You can follow them through several sims. When you come to the terminus, a short fly (yes, the horses fly) will take you to another sim and the Linden Road. You can ride for hours, enjoying the scenery as you traverse dozens of sims.  There are other horse farms, but none oter that I know of with access to the Linden Road. Just don’t dismount or you will have to go back to the start. I am sure, though, you will enjoy it enough to go back to McLean’s to get your own horse that you can ride anywhere. Fair warning though, to get on the horse, you have to wear it and if your wearing a skirt, it will come off and embarrass you.  More photos and Style Notes at It’s Only Fashion.

Be Less Stupid!

Good Blogger Behaviour

There are laws of etiquette in blogging people, and some people on our feed here PERSIST in being bad bloggers.

1.  Bumping your post’s time to remain at the top of the feed.  I think this is the height of bad blogger manners, and it leaves a very sour taste in my mouth, not to mention the mouths of those who read the feed to see what’s NEW.

That’s the only one that’s really bugging me right now.  You know who you are, you’ll probably bump your post to get on top of mine.  How many times have you done it now?

Second Life Fashion Addict

Sharing POISON CANDY With Friends!

I am a girl that loves anything Rockabilly, Psychobilly, or Retro, particularly when it comes to fashion. I previously blogged about the introduction of the Poison Candy line into SL in the capable hands of Alla Ruff as commissioned by the Cannery Rezzable SIM. Check out my last post here. I was blown away then, so imagine my delight when I logged today to find NEWNESS Hot from the Poison Candy Shop!

Poison Candy Wedding Dress

Gweneth Lange with Rezzable dropped 6 fabulous Dresses on me, so I grabbed my Best Friend Trixi Palen and we got all giddy playing dress-up! I have to say, the Poison Candy Wedding Dress was made for Trixi, the girl is Pink Personified! This is the first Psychobilly Bridal Gown I have seen in SL, and it is amazing, The Stockings, Lace Gloves, Ruffles, Bows, and Veil are included, and there is a sweet little Spider on the Veil. The Layers of Tulle in the Skirt have a spider web pattern, just divine! I think Trixi looks Amazing!

Poison Candy Tattoo Dresses & Vintage Skull Dress

The Posion Candy Tattoo Dresses are sweet, and harken back to some of the first dresses released under Poison Candy in SL. Pink with Flexi Prim Skirt on Trixi on the Left and the Beige with Sculptie Skirt on Me on the Right Side. These are all recreations of real dresses that Poison Candy has introduced in their shop, and can be found on-line as well. Alla Ruff did an amazing job, with optional Flexi or Sculptie Skirts, really sweet. The Blue Vintage Skull Dress has a lovely little Cameo Brooch on the Bodice. It is a smooth, lovely summer party dress with a little Cheeky Skull on the Cameo.

Poison Candy Jasmine Tea Party & Cocktail Hour Dress

My personal favorite of this new batch of Poison Candy, is this amazing Jasmine Tea Party Dress, which comes in red or white. It is the combination of a sculpted skirt and the flexi prim skirt that make it so full and romantic, and the lovely boa on the waist is such a lovely touch. This one I want IRL! Trixi similarly loved this Cocktail Hour Dress, very sweet and simple, yet it is faithful to a retro cool that you would see the rockabilly kittens wearing at the Hot Rod Shows in Vegas. Check out all the great stuff at Poison Candy, before some greedy little PIN UP Kitty gobbles it all up!

Scarborough Flair

Prescribed by your Fashion Doctor

The other day I got an IM from Caine Lewinter telling me about a New store opening this week called Novocaine, its a partnership of herself and Novo Zimerman, who I also had the pleasure of speaking to today.

I actually had some spare time, and after my chat with Novo I went right over to the store to see the yummies, as Novo was kind enough to drop some items on me, followed by some more.

The first thing that struck me was the beautiful build, this sim is just lovely, the stores are separated into clothing and hair, and both set ups are just Gorgeous.

While I was there I ran into Torie from Bebae skins and her friend Jade, we had a chat while we were trying on hair demos , and soon there will be NEW Bebae skins and from what I have seen so far YUM.

So seeing as that happened the skin today is the Renae skin from Bebae, make sure you go and grab some DEMOS of all the Bebae skins.
The first two items that captivated me in the clothing store-yes they are sold as seperates, and also have fat packs-are the wonderful Vintage Coats and City Slacks.

Just look at the incredible colours that are available in both, and the opportunity for mixing up is fantastic.

The Vintage Coats have wonderful sculptie pieces, including a texture change belt, so that you can make the contrasts for the coats yourself.

I also like the idea of using the cuffs and collar from each coat with another , such as black with red, or red with black, or the heavenly Chocolate and Amber colour- its not called that and I'm not logged in but the pictures are very clear so choosing colours you love wont be difficult.

The City Slacks are just divine too, with their almost metalic sheen in such beautiful colours again, and both pants layers so that the cuffs fit well, or if you want to wear boots, its easy. Again both items have such wonderful colours, that it doesn't matter what season you are dressing for, you will find ones you love.

Now lets talk Hair shall we, this style is the Jaya style, and its gorgeous, the prim work and textures are just sensational, you get three colours per pack , and the price is 225L, Demos are free so go and try them all , and THERE ARE MENS styles too , YAY for Men. Not allot of hair there yet , but the styles they do have will have you constantly tping over to check for newness.

Now the shoes. Sexy Lotus heels from Adam n Eve, in an assortment of beautiful colours and an incredible High Heel.

Damen Gorilla of Adam n Eve is definitely creating some wonderful shoes, and not just the style overall , but the textures are just divine. I love the mix of pretty and feminine with the lotus flower, mixed in with the raunchyness of that sexy heel shape and platform base.

Definitely a shoe made for getting attention, make sure you go and check out the DEMOS for these asap.

Look of the Day

Today’s look started with me stumbling across the Flickr page of Aralute Undercroft, the male Face of the Darklands winner and finding out that he made eyes. Since they only cost 20 L$ I bought a pair and decided that I would become an evil vampiric elf. That was my intention at least, although people told me that I looked cute later on!

I like my new look so much that I’ll probably wear elf ears and/or red eyes for the next couple of weeks!

My clothes are a combination of my two favourite outfits from Bare Rose. June Dion never ceases to amaze me with the quality of her designs and those incredibly low prices.

What I’m Wearing:
Skin: LUI, Androgyne (Exotica, Shadows) - eXceSs
Eyes: Vishia (Orange) - AraluteZ
Hair: Shaved (Coal) - Deviant Kitties
Lipring: lipring-spiky steel - Synthetic Memory (from Jewelry Expo)
Facial Tattoo: Frozen (black) - iN
Tattoo: Cyclops - iN
Wings: Ebony Web Wings - Material Squirrel
Ears: Elf Ears - The Body Politik
Jacket & Gloves: Arachne Knight (Black) - Bare Rose
Pants: Decadence (Black) - Bare Rose
Shoes: Laudanum (Black) - Lassitude & Ennui

Second Style Fashionist

Second Style #20 Now Available

For my American readers, I hope you had a great Independence Day.

I’m also excited to show off issue #20! It’s available as a PDF download, in world from our HQ on Le Zoo (136, 36, 22) and many other kiosk locations around Second Life, and from Issuu, a new free service which lets you browse PDFs just like a paper magazine. (It’s fast become the most popular way to read Second Style!)

Issue 20 is two weeks late, unfortunately, and I apologize for that. We have a lot of Relay for Life fashion goodies to show off, nonetheless, including our gorgeous covergirl Tigerlily Koi of Calla. We also welcome two new columnists this month: Graciana McMillan is taking over Runway Rundown from Justine Babii and Phoenix Chapman is contributing a new and notable column where she highlights her “can’t live without” finds over the past month. We’re already hard at work on issue #21, and hopeful it’ll be released on time.

Second Style is also having a special sale on ads for the next three issues (21, 22 and 23.) Due to the lateness of issue #20, we are extending our submission deadline for ads in issue #21 until July 14, 2008. We are also extending the ad submission deadline for issue #22 until August 1, 2008. The deadline for #23 will remain August 20, 2008. We typically publish Second Style during the first full week of a given month. (July will be slightly delayed beyond that timeline because we are allowing late ad submissions.)

For these three issues, full page and two page spreads will be 20% off! We will also stack this discount on top of our popular “buy three placements, get one free” promotion which saves you an additional 25% when you buy multiple placements at the same time. (You choose how to use your placements, one per issue, or two in two issues, etc.) With both discounts, a two page ad is about the same price as a regular priced full page ad (L$11,000), and a full page ad is just a little over L$6000, around the regular price of a half page ad.

You can see our regular advertising rate card here.

Quiet Revolution

there's a quiet revolution in design underway. i've been told frequently, without giving it much credence, that the Japanese designers coming into the world (not to discount the luminaries such as June Dion and Ameshin Yossarian) are bringing graphic abilities, prim innovation (ala sculpties), and scripting excellence that far surpasses anything previously seen. on my bored and blog exasperated

Candy Lemmon

In our first Independence Day post, we featured the Retrology landscape but not its content. I’m righting that wrong with some of my new Sidewalk Sale treasures, and a few past favorites. I actually bought this outfit a few months ago with the 4th specifically in mind. I dress seasonally in second life, and this cheery bustier and high-waisted skirt combo from Ingenue is the perfect retro compliment to a hot summer night watching the fireworks. I pulled on my favorite frilly white socks and a pair of red platform pumps for a little extra sweetness, and grabbed this fantastic strawberry purse from Chapeau Tres Mignon to carry all my date-night essentials. There was once a time when I thought I’d never buy a bag in second life, but not only does this one echo the cherry print on my skirt, it actually comes with smokes and a tube of red lipstick. That’s hard for any bobby-socking bad-girl to resist! I was leaning towards pigtails or braids and came upon this great past group gift from Aoharu, which resulted in my first blonde and brunette post. Don’t worry girls, once a redhead - always a redhead. My skin is a group exclusive from Frick, a “Retro Pinup” makeup variation, and the quirky and sexy specs that really make this outfit are a delicious Dollarbie (!) from VintageWear at the Starlust. This gorgeous waist-cinching Ivalde belt might just be my favorite Sidewalk Sale find, and I wanted to find a really sexy and glamorous way to show it off. Here’s a look at Vintage another way, a little more campy and traditional. Comme Il Faut recently had a half off sale on their red items, and I took the opportunity to slip into this sexy “La Ideal” dress - let me tell you, I’m beginning to understand the name. I decided to go ahead and go patriotic full force and wear my dollarbie Juicy pumps at the same time, and broke out my new Gianetti prim nails. You’ll definitely be seeing these again, they come in a rainbow of colors and are scripted to extend into huge melee kitty claws - it’s great fun. My classic hairdo is a JetDoll freebie available at Savoir Hair, and the bow is from the “Cindy” Pin Up Doll outfit, one of my virtual faves. The sophisticated arctic fox stole is a Megg Demina creation - and don’t worry animal activists, it’s “faux”! This pose was attached to the crescent moon in The New Champagne Rooms where I shot (available for purchase in the club), but the first shot and many of my others recently have been from Long Awkward Pose. Dove Swanson has been offering a slew of sales, and it’s reminded me to begin giving credit to the pose-makers in our posts.

Half Arsed

Damn near kilt him...

There's two ways to end up with a skin like this. Number one, head down to the beach early on Canada Day with a gallon or two of sangria, some tanning butter and your banana hammock and waste away the day on a beach towel - George Hamilton eat yer heart out!! Or you can jump off the melanoma highway and grab MiaSnow's Rodaidh Drow Skin. Since I spent most of my fechin holiday stuck on a bridge for six hours whilst the cops talked a jumper down from her perch, Mia's option was the one I took as well…but I'm not complaining…I'm no Drow expert, but I like her skins - her Drow's offer subtle changes in the face shadows and even blue war paint!!

It seemed so natural to get badarse once I slipped into this skin and I knew just the hair to start with: Thea Tamuras Punk Vein Hair. I only discovered this hair because I saw the word “punk” in the fashcon notice, kudos to her for so deftly taking advantage of my three second attention span. Kind of a rapunzel from the wrong side of town look, I'm not sure I'll be rocking this hair with a lot of outfits, but it definitely fit the bill here. I dusted off my Aitui nipple rings to celebrate the holiday, after a little adjusting they are ready to roll, in sl anyways - as a side note, although I've pierced several bits and bobs of my RL body, hell will freeze over before I ever mess with my nipples, or chest clits as I so affectionately have come to call them!!

Several months ago, I came across a dude wearing a madly detailed kilt, which of course led me to inspect my way to the store myself. While the outfit was incredible and a total prim fest, I was feeling cheap (a throwback to my ancestors?), so I saved a landmark and decided to come back another day. Another day almost never happened, because finding that LM two months later was akin to Scrooge McDuck finding a particular penny in his swollen money vault - like a bloodhound on a trail, I persisted though, and after TPing into 200 random stores or so, I found my Roman Legionnaire Heavy Armor Outfit, all 442 prims of it! But what prims they are - from the studded kilt, to the gauntlets and boots, this is one of the best historical outfits I almost never bought!!

On that note, today is the 4th of July, so I best get onto the internerd and start scouting out the most likely bridge to be caught up in a so-called “police incident" so I can be on deck bright and early. Why mess with tradition?

by Mia - Rodaidh Drow Skin 3
Groll Inn – Noble Rogue Set (ashgrey)(forearm and hand ornaments)
Aitui - Silver Hoop Nipple Rings
Thea Tamura Fashion - I Have a Punk Vein Hair Crest (black)
Skanks-R-Us - Earlines Piercings
Mikazuki Weaponry Mainstore - Roman Legionnaire Heavy Armor Outfit
(studded kilt, boots and greaves)

Coquette Fashion

Fixed… but…!

Ok! The Delish skins in Tone 1 are BACK with a vengeance at my main store ONLY.

They are NOT yet available again on OnRez or SLX, for this I am sorry. It’s a lot of boxes to repackage, and a lot of demos to redo, and it’s taken me basically all day. I can has holiday pay? ;)

Please keep in mind because I am not perfect that some of the makeups don’t “align” with the old versions, in the sense that I may have misnumbered or gone with a slightly different lip or eye base.

You can find them (once again, only at the main store) in Ciraco. Click here to teleport there!

Revamped previews below, again my apologies for the fact that the makeups are not necessarily exactly as the previous versions but I did do my best!

Rouge

SL-Rouge1

SL-Rouge2

ROUGE - Saturday, July 5, 2008, marks the highly-anticipated unveiling of CodeBastard Redgrave’s new sim, simply named, Rouge.

Redgrave is the creator of the infamous Boudoir Rouge portrait series, developer of the MachinimaCam and Dramavatar fashion line, and owner of the Code Red Lounge and Gallery.

The aesthetic design of Rouge was conceptualized by Redgrave and legendary builder, Eshi Otawara. From that point, Otawara used her skills as a builder, designer and artist to create a multi-purpose destination that will serve as the new home of the Boudoir Rouge Gallery Walk, Code Red lounge and Rouge Boutique.

Just over 2500 prims were used to create the basic structure, artwork and furnishings. Otawara’s judicious use of mega-prims and unique textures has created a locale never before seen in Second Life. The land is formed in the shape of a female silhouette outfitted with artistic touches signature to Rouge’s proprietress. Visitors to the sim will instantly recognize Redgrave’s signature color, and the sim’s namesake, as well as her ever-present red stilettos. A black and red feather boa serves as the roof of the Gallery Walk and a shock of wavy hair provides cover for the Code Red Lounge.

The Rouge Boutique is housed inside a dance pole shackled at the feet of the silhouette. The boutique will offer selections of Redgrave’s own creations, as well as, offerings from some of the grid’s most notable designers. All items available for purchase in the Rouge Boutique will feature the color red in keeping with the sim’s theme. Designers who have already signed on to have their designs featured in the Rouge Boutique include, among others: Casa del Shai (Shai Delacroix), Juicy, Tesla, and Bluebell Productions.

Additionally, Rouge will be available for use by individuals and organizations wishing to host parties, fashion shows and other events in a unique and beautiful setting.

Rouge will open, officially, with a Grand Opening party that will begin at 2:00 pm SLT on Saturday, July 5, 2008. Events are planned throughout the day and night so that the festivities can be attended by friends from around the globe. Hostesses for the evening will be the luminous duo of Queen Coronet and LadyArwen Demina. The DJ line up includes some of Second Life’s most sought after mix masters:
