Things I hate about Viewer 2, in no particular order

Note: I actually wrote this somewhat ranty piece on Viewer 2 (in its greater substance, at least) several days ago, shortly after I more or less promised to do so. Unfortunately I was then unable to commit any time to testing out the StarLight skin recommended by Otenth Paderborn as I had also promised. Hence the regrettable delay in actually publishing this. (I may also have been distracted by a shiny thing or two. It happens.) The opinions expressed here are of the out-of-the-box, virgin Viewer 2. I will be trying out the Starlight extension as soon as time allows and will follow up with further observations once I’ve done so. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!

As I mentioned previously, I’ve been fussing with Viewer 2 and trying to figure out just how LL intends for me to use it. In short, there are an awful lot of things I don’t like about it. Here I ramble, rant and free-associate about these in no particular order. Please remember that these are just my opinions; feel free to share yours in a comment. “You’re just a dumbass”—while it’s a valid opinion and others may well agree—isn’t really very constructive. In the spirit of fairness, I’ll try to mention things I do like as well as things I don’t, but I warn you in advance that my overall opinion is fairly negative.

The consolidated “fly-out” inventory etc. panel is bold and ambitious, and I think there might be a good idea in there somewhere. As it’s implemented, though, it’s confusing, it’s frustrating, and it fairly sucks. Although it’s clearly intended to be browser-like, it simply does not navigate in a sensible manner, and I think this kills it. Going “back” should return me to where I actually was before I went “forward”—but it does not, at least not always. For example, pulling up landmark info while on the inventory tab and then hitting back returns me to the Landmarks tab. Also, pulling up a profile’s info via an item’s properties while on the inventory tab and then hitting back returns me to the People tab. In both cases, I should be returned to the prior inventory tab. This is counter-intuitive and not actually very browser-like. However, although some friends hate this, I do actually like how it can “bump over” your view of the world when you open the panel and then restore it when you close. This is actually very helpful when editing an attachment, such as a hairstyle, or when flipping through wardrobe changes while modeling.

Speaking of inventory, must making an inventory offer be so complicated? I mean, really? Seriously. I had to IM Oscar the other evening to ask for help, and although I had had a cocktail (one!), I really don’t think I’m an idiot. Unless we’re missing something, you have to find (using Search or in your Friends list) the person to whom you want to offer inventory, then open an IM window, then click the Share button, then drop the inventory item(s) on that panel. Are you kidding me? I have to start an IM session although I neither want nor need to chat? Please tell me I’m missing something and it isn’t really that complicated. This seems to be an outgrowth of the new inventory panel which, due to the way it consolidates everything into a single view, can’t present both your inventory and a person’s profile at the same time. When Tyr Rozenblum writes, I listen. Ok not really but she’s an awesome chick! Tyr has a ton of imagination. She started designing for herself as she’s an experienced RPer. Over time, people asked where she got her clothing. Soon after her brand was born. Her products, whether its skins or clothing and accessories, have come such a long way.

Soon enough this outfit will be available for purchase. I love a half tank and super long skirt. These types of skirts are so awesome to for snaps.

Hair Influence – Manual

I have given up on the Gatcha Festival for now - from Plurk (Add me!), it would appear that every avatar on the grid is there and no one can even see the machines from the lag. I'll live without getting all of the Duck Soup protest signs.

In other news, I am very excited about something! I am going to be an official blogger for this year's Shoe Fair! YAY! I'm not going to be doing any reviews, since I don't do that, but I will be having fun at the fair and will be writing about that.

Writing about shoes and shoe fairs means I will have to get a pedicure. While I was looking for a day spa in search today, I ran across a German foot fetish shop. Being A) easily amused and B) age verified, I decided to take a look.

It turned out to be pretty tame -- except for this painting that TOTALLY freaked me out. I have a thing about long toe nails. Shudder. I am going to have to sleep with a nail clipper under my pillow tonight or I will not feel safe.

Elusyve said I had to go to the Albero Gatcha Festival -and since she’s a fucking giant who might squashe me, I went.

She also said I had to wear everything I got immediately, which meant I was walking around wearing many boxes. I think this might’ve been some mean elf trick on her part.

But since I had never been to nor patronized any sort of gatcha, you know, like Ron Burgundy would say – WHEN IN ROME.

Barerose Tokyo will be turning 5 years old in a few weeks! We have a ton of activitys planned from special live concerts, to fashion shows, and much more! The anniversary will be held the weekend of August 21st stay tuned for updates :)
To give everyone enough time we are announcing our photo contest now!

The Beautiful Rose - B@R 5YA Photo Contest
To celebrate 5 years of BareRose, we are holding a photo contest for BareRose VIPs.
The guidelines are quite simple: Using no more than 5 BareRose outfits, design your own unique outfit, wear it and then take a picture of you (or someone else) in it.
We will leave the theme of your photo and how you choose to compose it, up to you. This is the time for you to be creative!

Your photo will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Originality (for the idea and composition of your picture)
2. Creativity (for the thought behind the outfits chosen)
3. Quality (for techniques used)

All entries will be showcased at the B@R Ballroom during the celebration
Prizes are ...
1st $L3,000
2nd $L1,000
3rd 5 outfit voucher for any B@R clothing.

All other entrants will receive the male or female outfit released on the day of judging.

We have a few simple rules:

I think that lots of girls will be happy with this release, especially if you’re already a fan of the cute young faces from Pink Fuel. I know I am, but I have always favored the ‘youngish’ look in SL rather than the mature glam look. I’m not glam… I don’t really even like to wear shoes most of the time when I’m floating around in-world from sim to sim.

Are you looking forward to the final version of this skin as much as I am?

I hope the final is something like this, because I think it’s perfect already.

Ok so everyone saw this set at the SOL fair and well I happened to be one of them that was drooling over the bloggers set and I spoke with Winter and as soon as I got a copy I HAD TO SET IT UP! I begged kea to let me have a special office lol! I love it every little detail pretty much reminded me of my own rl desk! Coffee cup and all! This set comes with many tiny pieces which seriously brings rl blogging to sl. Theres a laptop, books, notepads, notebooks, a pencil jar, a plant, desk lamp, corkboard, chair, file box I mean seriously lol its amazing. Such attention to detail. The shadowing is perfect under every prim especially the chair!

Now lets talk money! This set only costs 850 for like everything under the sun lol. Also the armchair goes with this set but is sold separately for 250. The set I'm showing is the noir set, but you can still purchase it in it's original color which is like a red/natural color Winter says lol.

Now this is mainly a kids store and most the stuff here is fitted for little kids so you're gonna have to tweak it a bit if you wanna wear em like I do on my adult av but lol its so easy! There is so much that I probably will post from this store intended for kids but I still wear them on my adult av anyways. I love the versatility that Jayme offers with all her designs..Even though most of it is meant for kids...I'd still rock it!

This is one of Harry's slavewear that she just goes to amazing lengths to make adorable. If you can look like this in gor why the hell not be a slave right? lol.
I love the rose in the hair that goes with your rope bracelets and the leg warmers that are lined with roses too. It comes in 6 colors. Each one coming with the undershirt and under roo's but hey thats optional -wink wink-

Raping Thena's store as usual I stumbled upon these belts and let me tell you there are so much more to these then JUST the belt.

First off the set comes with the belt, plunger, plunger sheath, mustache, and hat.
BUT WHAT YOU DONT SEE IS...everything on the belt plays a sound. Yoshi's egg on the back says yoshi!! The koopa trooper on the behind plays the death song. EVEN THE TUBE ON THE FRONT PLAYS THE SOUND FROM THE GAME.

Oh also...you can totally shoot fireballs if you click on the flower and when it glows jus go into mouselook and pew pew!

Also it comes with the boxes from the game with the ? on em. One has coins one has the grow mushroom...but ya have to jump and hit it with your head first!

A Picnic at Third World

The new Picnic Dress from Haven Designs is a fun and cheery summer sundress that had me heading out for the outdoors. I love the field of daisies that begins lightly on the bodice and gets more intense as it goes down the skirt. The dress comes in seven summer colors with an additional blue limited edition for the Stumblebum Brigade.

I headed out to Third World to check out another corner for this shoot. Seriously, this sim is full of what you could call little set pieces or tableau that are perfect for photos while all working together cohesively.

The sundress demands summery accessories and what could be better than the espadrilles and floppy hat from Gos. They coordinate with each other and as you add color packs to the shoes, you get additional flexibility. For example, these are the yellow espadrilles but the lace and the seam are green from the Meadow color pack – and Meadow is the color of the sash on the hat.

Hello!

Welcome to my first post. I was so flattered and excited to be invited as a guest blogger for Free*Style. I've been reading it for about a year and a half...*fan girl waves*. I hope you enjoy my contributions and find them useful. Nuff bout me let's get on to what you're really here for yes?

There's a mini hunt going on right now called "The Little Big Nam3less Hunt". There are a ton of prizes for both genders. The top and jeans are also gifts from the Nam3less hunt. I like this top, it comes as is with the bikini on top, it's got some funky cuts and I think it's kinda unique. The leather cuff I'm sporting is a group gift from +grasp+ , there's a few group gift boards to go and click. The gorgeous soft, smokey skin is the current 69L Humpday special from Mango, Mango! I'm a bit late for posting it, BUT lucky us Sileny's pretty good about leaving it out at the sale price for a few days.

There's also a hunt going on for the grand opening of the Industry District. You're looking for really teeny tiny gears, so keep a sharp eye out. The prizes here rocketh!

These badbutt goggles are the hunt gift from -=FORSAKEN=- they also have the option to wear on your eyes which I forgot to snap a pic of *Doh* . The eyes are from Eye Factory, and the tattoo is from Endless Pain. This skin, my absolute fave from this hunt is from Nightshade Designs.

Happy Thursday kids! It’s me again with a recap of some of the news floating around Second Life with an extra helping of my two bloody cents. And boy howdy y’all been busy. So let’s get to it shall we?

Number A: The Lindens Fuck Up…..again..

So y’all know Hybrid Ansar right? She owns the shops: Savoire Fair Shapes, Not too Shabby, and Tendrils? Well she’s been banned from Second Life as well as somebody named Ikaru. Apparently this banning was the result of one ass clown and her partners in stupid filing false abuse reports against them as some form of “revenge”. This of course is bullshit as Hybrid is one of the most up and up people in the community. So hey Lindens, way to drop the goddamn ball on doing some research before hitting the ban button. Jesus Slam Dancing Christ, you clowns are like the Barney Fife’s of the internet. Never there when we actually need you (Being griefed, copybotted, or otherwise have a legitimate complaint) but hey, when you have your facts wrong you’re all over it like a fat kid in a candy store.

The Letter 2: Second Life Advocacy/Charity Group Formally Notifies Just About Everybody of a TOS violation.

Second Pride is a group in Second Life that centers around the LGBT community. Starting in 2007 they picked a real world charity to help out every year and they hold monthly fundraisers and also have a big Second Pride event. Overall after reading through their charter, about us, their forums, etc they seem like a very upfront and good organization. Now as you can probably guess this charity group handles a lot of money. In order to do so they created an avatar just for the purpose of handling the money. The avatar is of course controlled by the Treasurer. Well apparently this year, there were some problems getting the avatar back from the former treasurer Lemonodo Oh. The hows, the whys, the whole drama there isn’t the issue as that seems to be a rather internal affair and frankly I piss enough people off just by saying “Hi” I don’t really need a whole well organized group coming after me. While yes, may be fun it would be total headache after awhile. The story here is this: YOU ARE NOW ALLOWED TO SHARE AVATARS!! Look, as stated in Number A the Lindens are not the sharpest tools in the shed (Read: They ain’t bright folks). They will see a good charitable organization breaking the rules and they will come down like a ton of bricks instead of going after things that need to be addressed. Y’all need to be smarter than that. Seriously.

The Number 3: The Internet Police say you can’t sell shit you’ve purchased.

You know what the Transfer permission is for? It’s for giving stuff to other people. Also, it can be used for reselling items that frankly you no longer want in your inventory. That is why they have these things called Yard Sales. Shoot, if I remember correctly they even used to have a search feature for Yard Sales. Everybody who has transfer items can have a yard sale. I've always that thought that Calypso got a raw deal in literature.

We know her best from Homer's Odyssey. In Homer's tale, she shows up in line 14:
"Odysseus alone, filled with longing for his return and for his wife, did the queenly nymph Calypso, that bright goddess, keep back in her hollow caves, yearning that he should be her husband."

So basically in Homer's eyes, she's a desperate, lonely minor goddess turned kidnapper. He goes on to say that after many years, the gods force Calypso to let Odysseus go. And that's the end of her part in the story.

Apollodorus is a little kinder to our Calypso in his version of the story:
"[Odysseus] was carried across to the island of Ogygia. There Calypso, daughter of Atlas, received him, and bedding with him bore a son Latinus. He stayed with her five years, and then made a raft and sailed away."

At least here, instead of being crazy kidnapper, she's the abandoned single mother. An improvement, I guess?

What if she could be the hero of her own story instead of a minor character in Odysseus'?

Would she tell of her loneliness on the island until one day a broken man washed up on the shore? Of how she healed him and they spent several glorious years together? Did she help him build the raft that carried him back to Penelope, his wife?

And then after he left, what happened to her next?

I'd like to blame Violet Voltaire for this massively pastel outfit. She saw the glory that was the double rainbow meme, and decided to do her own paeon to it in a jewelry set. I have only one thing to say to that: WHOOOOAAAAAAA. What does it mean?!!!!? (Pick them up from her shop on Katat0nik's sim.) My hat is from Gos, and is as perfectly sculpted as usual from this designer. The scarf and hat textures are color-scripted! (SLURL to Gos)

Lola is full of color. So much so that I think I broke my CS5′s gif makerthingamajig. Please be prepared for some serious photo spam. You’ll just have to forgive me just this one. This skin deserves something and this something is a photo-montage.

Miss Launa Fauna will be launching Lola’s 2nd makeup pack very shortly. I love that she keeps her makeups in small packages of 5. Its manageable and small enough quite easily to fall in love with each of the personalities.

The incoming photos (after the cut) will make it quite clear as to why I’ve followed this skin created fro the past 3 years. L.Fauna, as its known today, was the first skin brand I religiously trailed. Just recently, she’s become a great friend of mine. New Hair + New Poses = Happy Gabby
LeLutka recently released some all new hairstyles and, like pretty much everything that comes from the LeLutka team, they are both gorgeous and well made. The new textures seem to have a lot of shine and there are dozens of color options available.

I went on a shopping spree at Dare and picked up some fantastic new poses and…hello, Bonus! Each of the four new “Single Ladies” sets includes a bodysuit by !Ohmai. I have no idea if I have the right bodysuit with the right pose or not, because I just sort of threw them all in a posestand and started playing. Sorry!

While i was reading a book i thought of the many ways to read it (yeah my mind randomly thinks about stuff *g*) and so this little poseprop came into my mind.

It comes with 5 different poses – adjustable via menu – and scripted to change the shelf into 140 colors to fit your accommodation perfectly Every pose also has a book to wear (the names of the books will show you which one to wear) already adjusted in position for the poses. Gimmee at Gatcha

This is a photo of me sticking my tongue out at lag while enjoying a delicious twist cone at the Albero Gatcha Festival.

I have a mini-obsession with the Gatcha Festival at the Albero shopping center. Gatcha is basically a random vending machine full of a variety of transferable items. You have no control over which item comes out.

I've spent a significant amount of money trying to "win" items. That's the appeal in a nutshell - it turns one addiction (shopping) into two (shopping + gambling)!

To me, the most appealing machines are the ones at low prices -- who wants to gamble $100L that you'll get the color you want? Not me. But I'll happily gamble $25 or $35 to get a trinket. Or a whole set of trinkets.

Now, there will be a trading party at the end (August 14th, 5 PM SLT), but, just in case, if you need an /artileri/ turquoise radio, I have 3 extra. If you want a pink beach towel, I have 2 extra. I also have a selection of duplicate Duck Soup protest signs. (Why do I need protest signs? I have no idea, but I must have them! Gah!) Just IM me.

Porcelain & China

When I saw the delicate tones of the new Baiastice skins in the Porcelain tone coupled with the delicacy of the lace jacket for this DCNY outfit, I knew exactly where I wanted to shoot – in China. Not the China of hustle, bustle and the Great Wall, but the watercolor China that you can find in the magnificent China sim.

This shot gives you just a small idea of the wonderful photographic opportunities you can find in China. I also played a little bit with perspective, using the CTL-8 lens change to the max to give it a shift in perspective.

The dress from DCNY can be worn with or without the lace jacket – but I really think the jacket is what makes the dress stand out. I added Pin-Up Pumps from N-Core. I am in love the with new N-Core Hud. It took me mere seconds to tint the foot for a flawless match.

I added the Fishnet gloves from Adore & Abhor for a bit of extra glam. The jewelry is from HaysUriza/

I’m loving this week’s Truth hair releases cos the hairstyles frames the face so well and there are no bangs covering the face. These styles will be perfect for blogging skins, which I haven’t done too much of lately but I’m hoping to do them more frequently soon cos some of my favorite designers are releasing new faces.

Also, if you have not made the switch to SL 2.1 (or another SL viewer with layers capabilities) you’re really missing out on some excellent customizations. I am wearing Laqroki Pearl skin with Dark Brows on the tattoo layer, plus Lelutka Lola lipstick. The fit is not perfect on the lipstick, but from afar you can’t even tell! I wanted to wear a more matted lipstick, even though I normally love the shiny lipgloss on Laq skins.

<– see the lips corners peeking out beneath my lipstick tattoo? You probably won’t get a perfect match with lipsticks unless it is created by the same creator for that specific skin. So I’m still crossing my fingers that Laqroki will be releasing some lipsticks on a tattoo layer soon! *crosses fingers*

Here in Sweden we’re having a typical Swedish summer. Which today included a rather impressive fog which made for some cool scenery down at the beach but didn’t exactly invite to subathing and swimming. So, it seemed like an excellent day for a post featuring a Summer of Love item: the Mosaic Summer skins from Nomine.

The Summer of Love is an event designed to raise awareness about mental health issues. It features exclusive content by a wealth of designers and the idea is that shoppers will be able to browse through what is on offer at the fair location and at the same time learn about mental health issues. The fair is not a charity event, though designers can choose to donate to Hopeline if they so wish.

I have always wondered if the DNR fancy dresses or “cosplay” could be used for different occasions, so for today I’ve decided I will show you the last part of the DNR Jeans collection with 2 different fancy tops.

Lady Mei Victorian is a very well designed outfit and it all looks perfect together, but guess what … you can wear the corset top and the jacket with *DNR* Leafy Embroidered Jeans and have a very smart or casual outfit, the top colour is salmon and pink and the jeans are in burgundy colour.

I really like all the fancy dresses DNR has for us. One of my first I owned was this lovely Faerydae outfit which I am wearing in green and voila! A perfect outfit to go shopping with your friends or to a picnic with your man :) Leafy Jeans are so matchable you can wear them with anything.

Siempre me he preguntado si los vestidos para disfraces o "cosplay" de DNR podrian ser usados en diferentes ocaciones, asi que para hoy he decidido que les mostrare la ultima parte de la coleccion DNR Jeans con dos diferentes blusas de vestidos para disfraces.

I'm relaxing while I wait for Jerremy to log in tonight. We had a wonderful anniversary celebration last night. I didn't get a chance for a photo - but maybe tonight. I'm a little sad we weren't able to throw a big party like we had originally wanted to, but such is life. I'll just tuck the "Love Boat" party theme away for another time.

I love being on our little island -- it really is peaceful here. I had a really great picture of the water - or so I thought. What is it with Linden water that makes it "tile" or take on weird textures in pictures even when it looks perfect and gorgeous on my screen?

Today’s style is from Ploom.

The Seaside style is a long, flowing style that falls in soft, flexi locks down to the small of the back. There is a knot piled high at the top of the head in front of the crown. The hair in front is parted on the far left with the strands crossing the brow. The style is accented with flowers and leather bands with bead fetishes. The flowers are scripted to change to 24 different textures.

I hadn’t expected quite such an interruption to regular blogging just from a little vacation, but there you go. Before we left I had a pile of work to wrap up and now that we’re here (here being halfway up the Baltic coast) even typical Swedish summer weather isn’t leaving me with much time for blogging. But, I do want to catch up on covering at least part of the pile of new things in my inventory (including lots and lots of skins!), so I hope that blogging well past midnight won’t produce anything too strange.

Of course, a little strangeness might go well with the two fabulous outfits from Deviance that I’ll be featuring today, together with sneak previews of two upcoming Adam n Eve skins.

The Best Summer Concert Event

The best summer concert event of all time is of course 98.9's annual Rockfest! This concert features 2 stages with several bands performing on each. Rockfest lasts all day and night long, so when going to this type of event, be prepared. I attend Rockfest every year, no matter who is on the line up. This year I went with my teenage children who were so happy when I logged onto the internet to purchase our tickets and to get more information.

This year at Rockfest, Papa Roach, Halestorm, Rev Theory, Seether, Drowning Pool, Godsmack, and Three Days Grace all performed on the main stage. The concert was absolutely amazing. Seether had a really good performance with their old and new songs. Papa Roach was another favorite of mine. That lead singer Jacoby sure knows how to sing. The boys preferred Three Days Grace, and said that they really knew how to rock.

I went to this concert because I wanted to take my teenage boys to their first concert ever. They had the time of their lives. The grass was so muddy that people were making mudslides and sliding down the hill. By the time the concert was finished, we looked like a bunch of pigs that had been rolling around in the mud. All that matters was that the boys had the time of their lives. I will attend this concert next year; however it is being debated whether or not it will be at Liberty Memorial next time due to the clean up. Either way if you are looking for the concert event of the season, try Rockfest for an amazing time!
