Last night I went with one of my best friends to see Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson in concert. For anyone living in the US, they are two of the most respected musicians in the country. So when I logged in today, I was excited to tell Raven about the concert. We don’t forget that Second Life is a world without national borders, but we are proud of our country, especially the creative energy produced here.

I flew up to her studio, and Johnny Cash, another great American musician, was blasting on the speakers. I walked in and Raven was wearing the Twisted Swiss, this time in a brilliant red. Sabine was standing by in the Twisted Swiss in white, watching Raven fluff up the skirt of a gorgeous blue version. Both were humming with the music.

“Hi, Harper!” Sabine smiled. Sabine is our quiet Duchess–she floats around the Isle taking care of things for us and keeping everything in order. It was good to see her having fun with Raven.

“Just in time,” Raven grinned. Raven took the dress off the mannequin and handed it to me. “Put this on.”

I donned the blue Twisted Swiss. The blue and red version were identical lolita-style dresses with their mesh top, laced corset and elaborate laced collar. Two layers in the skirts with tulle and brocade shimmered around our legs, showing Raven’s finest gifts with hand-drawn textures imported into SL.

Raven had us pop up on to pose stands. The bright ruby red, the gem-like blue, and the pure white arranged together looked like a crazy patriotic gothic fashion show. “Just in time for 4th of July,” Raven said. “Some American colors for American music lovers.” She shot photos as she bellowed out, “Because you’re mine, I walk the line.”

For me, is always a pleasure to blog the creations of hyasynth Tiramisu from ~silentsparrow~. One of the recent releases is the pretty Lottie available in 6 colours with dramatic ballgown skirt (not shown), vintage ankle skirt, bodice, jacket with sculpted sleeves, capelette, 2 different gloves, stockings and shorties.
Kim is the 5th generation of skins from PXL Creations and is available in Natural, SunKissed, LightTan and Tan. The Natural tone has 4 eyebrows colours (red, blonde, brown and black) while the others have 3 (blonde/lightBrown, Brown and Black). There’s also bald and painted hair options with an addon for the painted hair. I went for the Natural tone since it was the one with the red eyebrow option.

Vain Inc. Magazine Issue 23 - Now Available!

The July 2009 Issue of Vain Inc. Magazine hit the stands yesterday, and it has to be one of the best efforts as of yet. Yours' truly was beyond flattered when Editor-in-chief, and all around super-woman, Toko Voom asked me to pose for the cover. What does one wear one a cover of a magazine that sums up one's personal style and still makes for a compelling image. I settled on a great sexy top from Bare@Rose Tokyo, a skirt from Maitreya, and Jewelry by Paper Couture, ~*Fresh Baked Goods*~, and (Caroline's) Jewelry. Hey everyone!..So as you will see (down below) I’m lately more inspired to, mix and match ‘old’ stuff with some new, but mainly, old. In sl old for me means treasured. Treasured because there are some pieces I am still in love to this day and others no longer available. I don’t wear them as much as I should so, letting them see the ‘light of day’ a little, does feel good. Like ‘old’ paper couture stuff or creamshop or Artilleri (which will never go out of style) or Grandma!. I was talking to my friend Amika jewell the other day, Grandma is in the present a furniture store but in the past, Hanae Nishi (owner of grandma!) used to own a really awesome vintage inspired clothes store and I really, really miss it. I am happy to own mostly everything from there and I wish Hanae Nishi could re-launch her clothing line, but, as far as I know it’s gone. For now I hope! Simply Moth

Moth – The word does not immediately bring to mind the most positive of thoughts. Usually thought of as something which chews holes in our clothing, or seems to fly blindly into lights. However, further thought would reveal that the Moth, via its larvae, is actually responsible for some of the most luxurious and expensive of garments we wear – Silk. Thus I thought it fitting that this beautiful gown embodies the captures and invokes the beauty which is oft overlook.

One glance towards the luminous
and the spark kindles within her eyes
when the girl created from velvet and dust
flies trembling towards the flame.

More elusive than her daylight kin
she trails a shroud of tawny lace
Her wild worship of the lantern's glow
scatters light across the darkened land.

We discovered this gown at the fantasy fair, and the wampyre suggested right away it had ELF written all over it… I loved it too, but took the opportunity to ask said wampyre to write something beautiful to accompany the gown, and the result you see above. I was also inspired to wax poetic, my words do not dance as beautifully as Winters, I am more the accidental poet...

She sits, simply, plainly,
dull if noticed at all,
watching them as
they are drawn to
and captured by
the brilliant display of those
more obvious than her,
showing their surface beauty
without shame.

Nature protects
most precious jewels
worthy of their quiet beauty,
to be discovered, to reward

About 99.9% of the time, I run my avatar around with a neutral expression on her face. When I’m taking snapshots, I’ll sometimes hit the Emote function in my MystiTool to get her to crack a big smile or some other fun facial animation:

You can take the whole facial animation thing a step further with London Spengler’s Pandora FACE 2.0, which basically allows you to play two SL facial expressions at the same time, making for all sorts of possible combinations.

As much as I adore the facial animations that are available in SL, sometimes they’re a tad cartoonish for my purposes. Just the other day, as I was setting up a picture of my av at a beach sim (Mori Pwani sim, my Plurk friend Lissa Pinion has now got me hooked on playing on the waves there) I realized I wanted my avatar to have a subtle, Mona Lisa-ish smile to go along with the looking-over-her-shoulder-at-the-camera pose. To accomplish that, I decided to create variations on my avatar’s face shape and these are some of the results I got:

While working on editing my shape, I recalled talking with an SL photographer about a year ago on the subject of getting more facial expressions beyond the ones already built into SL. Perhaps editing my face shape seemed like an obvious answer to me because I work with shapes a lot for my store, but it was something that had not occurred to him to try.

So, I figured I’d write about it on my blog, and share what sliders I edited to create my subtle facial expressions. ^_^

To create my avatar’s melancholy expression, these are the sliders I edited:

Eyes > Eye Opening: slightly wider
Eyes > Outer Eye Corner: slightly more down
Mouth > Lip Width: slightly narrower
Mouth > Mouth Corner: corner down

Your eyebrows are also an important part of creating a facial expression.   (To edit your eyebrow shape, you must go into Edit Appearance > Hair > Eyebrows.) These are the slider adjustments I made for my melancholy emote:

I could not decide what was the best way to show off the Exodi skin I picked up the other day right after the 50% off sale started. I mean, it’s so extreme and colorful – I wanted fun and festive. This Fedora hat and mystic bob seemed to be the perfect way to show you the colors.

ROLE Magazine: July Issue Out Now

ROLE Magazine is pleased to announce the publication of our July, 2009 issue. July was a hectic month for the ROLE Magazine staff as we were chosen as an exhibitor for the SL6B Celebration which required a build to suit the futuristic theme. We celebrated the 6th birthday of Second Life in style with a live performance by the talented Winston Ackland and a photo contest for SL6b revelers.

We welcome new staff contributor Salvatore Otoro and anticipate his upcoming articles on role playing sims including his first in our magazine on the City of Lost Angels.

Our controversial on-going discussion of what makes art "art" continues with thoughts from Kee Llewellyn. Aldwyn Zanzibar unravels the mysteries behind three in-world pose tools and weighs in with his thoughts of the merits of each. Keeley Huet hops about the grid in search of the dearest prefab houses for our consideration. Paypabak Writer bowls us over with her in-depth look at the sixteen sim fantasy world of the Great Alliance.

Review ~ Sublime Summer Sundresses

There have been many cute sundresses released in SL, both old and new designs and after some SL window shopping I found my favorite three sundresses, all perfect for those long hot days in the sun. First off is the op&tunic dress in white by Kurotsubaki. This adorable dress is available in three colors red, blue and white, each with these colorful embroidered flowers around the bottom giving a very cute and girly look. I wore this very cute dress with a new release hair from W&Y.

Next is the Madrigale Dress in green from UnTone Quilt, perfectly designed with two contrasting textures in the skirt to give a beautiful and soft flowing movement as you walk. This dress is just so delightful it is a must for any SL summer. Here I wore the Madrigale dress with a new release hair from FUEL, Coco in beach blonde.

Last but definately not least is this fantastic new release from Abstract Reality Designs, the Supersplat Dress in Orange. This beautiful summer dress just perfect for a day at the beach or walk in the park and guaranteed to get you noticed. Abstract Reality Designs is a relatively new store in SL and if you have not yet been, head on over to see these unique and stylish designs. I teamed up the Splat dress with some Gladiator Sandals from UnTone Quilt and Bo Hair in Natural Blond, a new release from Maitreya.

My top 5 skins on all time

This is my seem like a vague fashion post but I was in the mood today to dig through my inventory of doom. I hate that once there’s a new skin out all those old loved faces get lost into my inventory. And because the 3 year anniversary of Second style is rolling around, here they are some new and some old Faces. I’m not featuring the brand more than once simply to make it a bit more fair.

Also this mean seem very odd to a lot of you but I simply look at faces on skins, as long as the body is seamless and nice to put clothes on top of I’m happy, therefore ill be featuring the face only because that’s what iv fallen in love with. I have kept the same eyes, lashes and shape for all these pictures simply because I felt it would give people and honest idea of the faces on these beauties.

I mean this statement in a nice so please don’t think im being offensive but I agree with a statement I heard once describing curios skins as “having the face on an angel and the body of a whore”. All that’s meant by that’s is the innocent faces matched with a body of a woman are very striking and a reason why this skin seems to popular today. Curios selections of makeups never fails to excite and i really ned to go check out the newest ones she dropped a few days ago!

This is ones of Blowpops new releases after a brief stint as a brand infinity Annyka has switched back. Theres a quality that comes with Blowpop skins that’s unmistakable there never over saturated and they always give avatars this ethereal look. Ava is no different, the nose area is what really impresses me it just looks do delicate I can help but fall in love with this skin at first sight. Along with Ava Blowpop has a series of new faces and something for everyone.

TIMEWARP. Were going old school I know but this was one of my die hard “I’m glued into the pixels” skins. Viewing it now it looks oddly flat but I still thing the eyes have an enchanting quality. This makeup is still one of my favourite in Sl and I’ve struggled to find a duplicate on other skins (cough cough). Im so sad she never released anymore skins and if she ever comes back to SL ill be first in line for them.

Guest post – The Style of Argrace

**The following is a guest post written by my friend, and MDR co-owner, Rhodesy Durant. I often seek Rhodesy’s opinion before purchasing certain things, so I was delighted when she decided to take me up on the offer of doing a guest post. I’m sure you will love her look as much as I do.**

Having known Arcadia Nightfire since her first moments in SL, I am no stranger to the concept of fashion blogging. I watch her put together outfits and then go on to describe them for the fashion conscious to absorb. I’ve watched her both fret at trying to get an outfit just right and squeal with glee when an outfit just falls together with no effort at all. She is my partner in crime when it comes to shopping, so we visit a lot of the same stores. Therefore, it shouldn’t surprise you that we went to Hair Fair together on more than one occassion to make sure we’d seen it all.

Because of lag, we both snagged demos to try on back at the studio. Being Durannies, we both have soft spots for Fedoras but when I spotted Agrace’s store full of them, I decided to pass because they came in all natural hair colors and not my favored purple. However, when Arcadia tried on one of the demos, I was hooked; I ran to their main store in hopes of avoiding the Hair Fair lag, but was unable to snag this divine creation. But what a TREAT I discovered! I was delighted to find a whole line of gorgeous hair and even better: clothing that made my inner preppy melt!

Agrace seems to dabble in a little bit of everything—furniture, jewelry, hair, clothing (for men & women), and eyes. I didn’t want to leave the store! Lindens have been a smidge tight lately, but when I saw this Natural top for ladies in the sensational royal purple satin, I didn’t even think about the Lindens. I just clicked buy! Once I put it on, all of Arcadia’s offers to allow me the occasional “guest blog” spot on Fashion 360° became mandatory. I had to share this with her readers… or maybe I’m just that vain, and I couldn’t resist showing off.

Wow I can't believe its July and the year is half over already. Its been a rollercoaster six months for me so far and I'm hoping the remaining six months are more settled. How has your half-year been?

I was wandering around Harlow looking at the fab new stores which have just opened when I stumbled across Eye Candi and two amazing deals! Absolutely gorgeous is how I would describe the Natalia skin I found there for only $10!!!! It comes in 3 skin tones and is lightly freckled for a cute girlish touch. I just adore the makeup! After skins, hair, poses, tiaras and cupcakes, my next biggest addiction would be without a doubt....Eyelashes! I love how they can completely change your look and give you a more sexy and seductive look. I found a box full of 5 lash styles for only $89!!! I'm in eyelash heaven!!!!

When we were browsing in T Junction Cam found and had to have the "I just moved you to the top of my "to do" list" shirt, to which my reply had to be "lmao". Poor guy, no wonder he's single with pick up lines like that!!!! But its a fab shirt and will get a giggle out of your friends and who knows, maybe he will find someone to top that list! As for me, I'm still LMAO!!!
