Shopping Cart Disco: Banned from Armidi

What started as a joke between some designers and models has ended in bans for them from one of the most-shopped places in SL: Armidi. The problem? A gigantic humour-inducing facelight.

[18:12] Armidi Representative*: Hello please remove your attachment, or I will be forced to remove you from the sim - thank you.

I could imagine these facelights interrupting the sim’s load time, but the wearer clearly stated she was shopping and, thus, planning on giving Armidi money. The next day…

Well its good that they now allow the Facelight 3000.

If you know Lyanis, she doesn’t wear stuff to grief but to make people laugh. She was probably wearing it to show to friends, and then didn’t bother removing it just to go shopping - who bothers to change to go shopping??

I just want to say that anything that doesn’t cause lag is welcome at my store. So is the Facelight 3000! Also welcome furries, nekos, and wings!

I had the pleasure of meeting great designers during the Fashion Inspired by Black Swan. Kuranosuke Kamachi from DeLA was one of them.

I have asked her to create two gorgeous gowns that would fit to our Crimson Shadow Collection and the new boutique in Black Swan.

Couple of weeks later Kuranosuke gave me these beautifully detailed, extremely delicate two gowns in two colors each. Even before, I have opened the folders I was stunned by the names of the gowns.

Time for new stuffs again and heading into the fall season with a vengeance. Darker colors, more layers and lots of sweaters and knits. I'm so ready. Here's the newest! In two posts cause everyone knows I hate "below the cut" lol

This is a death cyberpunk nurse/med look that I love and the hair in the female version is by the incredibly talented Rikka Koi of Crimson and Clover and wont be released until the hair fair so NYEH. The ads speak for themselves I think (& SHOES are included as well as a cameltoe sculpty prim lol). Here's Death Rattle for gurls and bois! Man these are way hot and I still have this damn mask on. I swear I'm a little ocd.

This is my fave thing of the week! I was so strangely excited by this sweater. Prolly cause it's my first fur thing and now I wanna cover everything with fur lol. I paired the fur trimmed cropped black sweater with a rolled top texture changing skirt. 12 different skirt fabrics to choose from in solids, stripes and prints. I think this skirt and sweater set is essential for a gurl's trashy fall. It also comes with knee socks that have fur trim at the top. I called it "Half Dressed"

AND course you know me, I had to do the sweater in multiple colors...8 in all. Dark rich tones qith fur collar and cuffs. Rob rolled his eyes when I called em "Bit of Trim"...and ya, I had to lol

WigWamBam has some new items again i’ve chosen two interesting outfits to mention here. The first item is called “Blue Autumn”, which is pretty sexy when u wear on street. i like the texture on the shorts while i think the texture/details can be improved for the top

The second item is a “rouge sweater dress”. i myself am not a big fan of this kind of red, but somehow i find it look good in this combination which has an oriental sense.

Hair im wearing is Quiet seduction in Raven by Sky Everett Designs. again im no fan of the textured curls which u can see from the sides, but i think it looks nice from the front

I’ve had an idea, to try and dress ‘British’ for the day, and by that I mean wear something with the Union Flag on it, and a bit of tartan. ;P

So what I am wearing is hair from HCT, top by Muism (lovin’ it) and a tartan mini skirt, which I really really like, although it does have a resizing script in it, which drives me insane (I like to resize things the old fashioned way) and I bought the Urgh boots from Jeepers Creepers which look like the Aussie Uggs. The Jewellry is from Yak and Yeti, indian and tibetan designs.

We are in the middle of August, which means summer will soon be officially over (in some countries, like where I live, even before it started at all). Luckily, in SL you will find many places where the sun always shines and the water is always warm enough to take a dip. If you need some inspiration on how to look best or want to add to your existing beach wardrobe (or are just looking for a good excuse to go shopping!!), take a look at our bikini special, in which we will show you a selection of our favourite beachwear and accessories.

We packed our things and teleported over to Paradise Padre Beach. This place is a little undiscovered gem, because it not only offers nice little spots to relax, but also lots of fun and action. Ride the giant tube slide, dive from the vulcano, try kite surfing and windsurfing or just hang out in a paddle boat. Everything is free and fun and still there are almost no people (at least not when I went there) and therefore no lag, which is an absolute mystery to me.

I was browsing through my endless inventory, when I came across a wedding gown and an evening gown. “When the hell did I get these?” I thought. I tried them both on, and while they were each lovely, I liked the wedding dress a bit more then the other. Turns out they are from Gracie’s Bridal. This gown I am showing you is called Moonlight Sonata. The bodice is very low cut in both the front and the back, and finished on each side (side meaning front and back openings) with tiny, blue flowers. Perfect for the bride who is feeling sexy and wants the world to know! The fabric is a tight woven lace, which continues down the skirt and train. A sheer tulle overlay gives this gown a light, airy feel. There are 2 prim skirt sizes, and 2 smart skirt options. Mod/trans on all except smart version is trans only.

Also included with this lovely dress is an interesting veil and an optional skirt bustle ribbon. Fragrant, blue flowers wrap your head and finishing the back is delicate, cascading tulle. The bustle ribbon kisses the top of your derriere with a sheer, blue bow while a lighter shade of blue ribbons fall behind. I felt like such a princess while wearing this gown. I typically take my pictures in my back yard, but I was compelled to go and find a nice chapel for these. It seems lately I have a little bit of gold fever (maybe it's from watching the Olympics) and cannot stop messing with creating realistic gold textures. Ever since I created the Sleeping Beauty dress with the gold accents on the dress - I took it a bit further. After about 10 different designs and I was only satisfied with about 3 of the designs. Well - what did I do with them? I'll tell you, I made bangles. My favorite band and my favorite jewelry! Any way, I created 3 different gold bangles for you to mix and match with your favorite outfit - with gold of course. I created left and right arm attachments as well as a set of three - so no worries you won't have to edit too much. Yay gold! Now all I have to make is silver and bronze...

[God, I suck at titling posts.]

I love silks, apologetically. I really have no occasion to wear them, but that doesn’t stop me from prancing around in them at every opportunity. Really, what’s the point of a virtual paperdoll, if you can’t don a skimpy dancing costume and bellydance around in your skybox? None, so there.

Of course, silks of the string-and-scrap-of-fabric variety don’t hold any appeal for me. Like all my clothing, I look for something with an unusual twist, and the new Rust Shaman set from Dark Eden fits that description perfectly.

100% prim silks are always a marvel to me. Most of the time they can be a complete pain in the ass to fit, but these worked surprisingly well out of the box. (Helped along by the thoughtful inclusion of small and large sizes for the main pieces.) I’m not a delicate kind of girl, and this isn’t a delicate set of silks. Rough, torn fabric is held in place by rusty bits of wire, cogs, and other scraps of salvage. The subtle pentagram theme also gives it a nice esoteric kinda feeling.

And just FYI: I did, in fact, photoshop my nipples out of the sheer top. Because. Well, I don’t know you that well yet. Buy me dinner first, then we’ll talk. :p

I usually end up piecing together elements of my favorite silks to include in a more traditional outfit, so I decided to show you an example of how I incorporated these into a street look.

Voila! With just a slight bit of modding, the loincloth becomes a belt!

**A quick apology to Enigma, she sent this over a couple weeks ago right before the move and I forgot to post it. Sorry!!**

I received as a gift a pair of Mason Kingsford’s just-released, sculpted, high-heeled wedge sneakers and decided I needed to build an outfit around these superb shoes. They have a color-change script for the shoes and laces, so I had a range of shades from which to choose. I headed to a new-to-me store owned by Katat0nik Pidgeon and found some amazing, scripted skirts for L$1; I think the pink skirt mixed with purple shoes is a bright and cheery color combination/contrast.

Next, I chose a colorful jacket from Canimal that has both pink and purple in the print; this jacket comes in a pack of six colors, and they really do remind me of candy, as the name says. I love the grafitti look on clothing, especially in rainbow colors.

To offset all the bright colors, I fell back on two of my favorite layering pieces, the Zee tank from artilleri (in white, but I tinted it black) and the Yardstick thigh-high socks in midnight from Pushbutton Industries (*PBI*). The socks have a very subtle stripe in them and come in a pack of
13 colors. I liked the effect of the black with the brights, to give the outfit a bit of an edge.

Accessories for this outfit include one of my all-time faves, the white lily bangle from Creamshop; I love the flexi-bits on this whimsical yet feminine bracelet. I also picked out more stark necklaces and earrings from Schadenfreude by Allegory Malaprop so as not to compete with the vivid colors on the skirt and jacket. I love the way these three items all have color change scripts in them, and I went with black (for the leather on the collar) and copper for the metal. These jewelery pieces are ones I turn to again and again since the color changes make them so versatile.

Bright clothes call for glittery makeup, in my opinion, so for my skin I chose the Classic Glitter in Silver 2 from Celestial Studios by Starley Thereian. I also threw on the colorful “maggie” tattoo from artilleri, for good measure. My hair is ETD’s Survive, which, unfortunately, is no longer available since it was a Relay For Life limited edition style. However, Elikapeka has several other similar styles that would work well with this outfit, I included details about the Mira style which has a scripted, color-change headband.

I am constantly remixing outfits and had a great time putting this one together for my first Closet Crisis submission!

This white jacket from Kal Rau is part of his newly released collection of men’s clothing, and — as usual — is superbly textured, a sort of net fabric overlaying a subtly patterned underlayer. Comes on the jacket layer with moddable hood.

The sunglasses, also from Kalrau, are sleek and stylish, and easily scripted for clickable resizing. (I love resizing scripts, sorry!)

Posy Trudeau’s Baggy Jeans at Civvies are put together in a pack with different versions of belted jeans — brown, blue, gray, green, orange, pink, and red — 7 colors in two presized versions, plus two presized pair of sculpty cuffs, all moddable, in baggy and shabby baggy versions! I know you can’t see the belt here, but it made no sense to put it under the jacket.

One of my favorite activities in SL, besides shopping is checking out the contest scene. Its great fun, you meet people, and gain exposure in the fashion industry. I'm not contest crazy as I may enter one per month, but I've had some luck with them (/me gratuituously plugs her May JCNY title win). Its exciting to put looks together for a contest - because you get another excuse to shop and take pictures. Give me a V-A-I-N! :P

Finding out about the contests is pretty tricky, sometimes I hear from friends or group notices. But, the best group is Contest Central. You get weekly updates, and you can pick and choose which contests work best for you.

One poor little contest note card sat idly in my inventory until yesterday when I got "give me a project bug." Bianca Foulon is a well-known designer in SL for her inventive creations and wannabe ad campaign seen in many in-world publications. Some contests require you submit pictures in-world via note card or folder, while others ask you to post pictures on Flickr or Koinup. The BiancaF contest is featured on Flickr. The rules for this contest stipulated that you all clothing, shoes, accessories and skin be from Bianca F.

After visiting the store and getting a feel for BiancaF's new campaign, I settled into buying a few items to complete my look. I TP'd to my roof studio faster than you could blink and turned up my iTunes. A classic Bjork song "Army of Me" really inspired me to capture a fierce look oozing with intensity. It couldn't have come out better for me - the styling evolved as the shoot progressed. I guess some days you get lucky! Even if I don't win this competition, I had oodles of fun working on it and the response was terrific.

The flagship BiancaF store is on the Velvet sim and one of my favorite shopping haunts (FTV, DPS, Vain, Bax Coen, Mimiriki all have stores here). Check out the store and give the August contest a go! You have nothing to lose!

Reading the fashion planet feeds is part of my daily ritual, and after DAYS of no internet I needed my fashion fix. As soon as I saw the Dressmaker's hat by Stitch by Stitch on the feed, I knew I had to have it. I SLURL'd it immediately. It did prove difficult as the SLURL took me to the location that didn't have the hat in it. But, I passed the time wisely buy snatching up an adorable tartan skirt.

The skirt is made up of multiple fabric layers each with a different tartan pattern. I loved the mash-up of the prints, its different but it just worked. After snatching up the skirt and every hat in the boutique - I searched the owner, Sevenstar Amat and visited her other locations. At the Stitch by Stitch mainstore, I found the Dressmaker hat and I swear I heard angels singing. It was as if I'd found the Holy Grail of hats.

Unfortunately, the vendor wasn't working. My shopping orgasm was squelched on the spot. So, I pulled up the owner's profile and shot her a friendly IM informing her of my vendor cock-block. She had me funnel over the lindens and I had my hat in seconds. Yippie!!! All was well in the world again. The owner is a lovely lady and we chatted a bit about her designs and my love of hats. She was kind enough to send me a lovely beret and an invite to join her group (there are lovely group gifties too). You really need to stop by the location to see them in person. I'm afraid my piccie doesn't do her hat justice. Its now my favorite hat - and that's no small feat as I own over 100 different ones.

So, after one of the best shopping trips ever - I headed home to capture the look for my blog. I unpacked the hat and swear that it was even better than I imagined. It has wonderful ribbons of many patterns and colors and some pins and a thimble attached to the side of the hat. I just knew the tartan skirt would be perfect compliment to the hat. As I dove back into my inventory, and attached the skirt I started to jump up and down. The skirt prim comes with that wonderful belt and fits perfectly (no resizing needed).

After a few minutes of basking in the glory of the skirt and doing a few twirls, I realized I had a challenge ahead of me to complete the look. I spent a good 10 minutes in my closet finding the perfect shirt to match. Shopping on the Retrology sim, I picked up this cardigan with prim scarf from Thimbles ages ago, and never found anything that I could wear with it. It works with the complex patterns of the skirt beautiful, complimenting but not over-powering the look. Although, the cardigan was unbuttoned and showing way too much skin, so I went back to my closet to find an undershirt layer. I played with colors a lot, until I found some patterned undershirts from my formal wear collection. This polka dot pattern camisole is from the Leezu Baxter Noir collection. Its from the Miriam dress and it played up the idea of patterns beautifully as there is a polka dot ribbon in the hat.

While my avatar went a-wandering the fair streets of Axis Mundi, my SL self taught my first class of the semester this morning. I'm TAing in a one-year intensive curriculum that turns English majors into high school English teachers, and I think my school's program does a mighty fine job.

One of the amusing parts of the first day was "how to dress for the classroom." It was demonstrated by a chesty, leggy woman who dressed in very conservative slacks and a high-buttoned shirt. She told the class her dressing technique, which involved contorting in front of the mirror to make sure that no undergarments, skin or tattoos emerge when doing teacherly things like writing on the blackboard or squatting by a desk.

I thought the entire conversation was amusing considering my not-very-hidden Second Life avatar's fixation with clothing. IRL me wore a conservative knee-length black dress from Target today, so SL me had to do the complete opposite, just to express myself. Here I am in brand new boots from First Flower, the Valerian -- which now come in violet, blue, and red. I really need these boots for teaching -- although they might steal the show!

Last night someone tp’d me to a location on the Haute Couture sim demanding that I remove my REALLY LARGE SHOE from her shop. I don’t even have rezzing rights on this sim, so I went to see what she was on about. Apparently a shoe I have never seen before or own was enlarged and on display inside a former shoe shop? I don’t know.. weird…..!!!! I had full perms to it too, and could edit, so I just deleted it from her shop. Tried to contact a Linden, not much help, but I just wanted to document this here just in case anybody in SL has encountered this weird problem.

**EDIT** In other bizarre shoe news, a friend of mine showed me a thread on the SLU forum featuring some very nice sculpted shoes that someone was selling full perm on SLEx. Those looked really similar.. if not exactly the same as the ones sasawe Capalini tried to sell me several months ago.

So I went to a picks in the seller’s profile, Have Magic, and found these shoes rezzed in-world. They’re really nice looking!

Another terif release from the Kunglers sisters. This one is a basic dress … but nothing basic about it! Tons of great textures at work. The wide strapped top is done a soft ivory tone that leads into a silver sequin band which wraps around to the back. The back is really the best part to this dress. The wide opened back is highlighted by that wrap-around band. Don’t you just love that feature. Another feature that can only be seen and upclose is that soft pinstriping running down the skirt… super great to this design. Thank you again ladies for sharing this with me :) (The dress is called Vivian and avaliable in many beautiful tones.)

Dominion is a long-tailed suit made out of deeply detailed brocade. It has four jacket options plus two more for a short shirt and shirt on jacket layer, prim cuffs and collar and jabot. The graceful tails sweep to the floor to set off taut trousers (in underwear and pants layer options) to make it fourteen pieces in all. It comes in eight colors: violet, sea, ash, kelly, azure, blood, rust, and wine.

I have always liked that little “uh” when Bogart speaks the famous quote in The Maltese Falcon. Sometimes it’s the flaw that elevates the excellent to the extraordinary. After all, where would Lauren Hutton be without her gap? In the case of the new Tuli Elizabeth skin, I submit that the little mole under the left eye is what moves this skin into the extraordinary.In the past I have read the rave reviews of Tuli skins with bemusement as they never seemed to suit my face. This one, though, is a perfect fit.
